When Kristen and her husband first experimented with low carbohydrates in the early 2000s, they avoided carbohydrates and lived only on low-fat foods, like chicken breast and tuna.
Although they lost weight, this strict diet was not sustainable. They walk around feeling hungry and deprived. That's why Kristen now believes it's important to add fats to your diet to feel satisfied -and she tries to do that with every meal.
These days, Kristen starts her day with coffee and adds a little butter. In the afternoon, you usually eat a salad that contains some lean protein, like fish or chicken breast - or keep things simple and eat leftovers from last night's dinner. For dinner, you usually prepare a meal that contains a healthy balance of fat, protein, and vegetables.
"In general, each serving consists of seven to 10 grams of carbohydrates, 20 to 25% of protein, and 70 to 75% of fat," says Christine. "As long as there is equal fat - or more fat than protein - I know it's a meal that will keep me full for four to six hours." This is why I had the secret to staying in shape and eating a balanced diet.
